Our process eliminates the need for traditional adhesives by integrating a factory-applied insulation blanket with a precision-engineered PVC interlocking joint system. This dry installation method ensures:

· Rapid deployment with up to 9x faster installation times

  • No skilled labor required—the intuitive INSTANTILE system allows for error-proof installation by virtually anyone
  • Perfect alignment through tight mechanical joint tolerances
  • Thermal and acoustic benefits from the integrated insulation layer
  • Fully reversible setup for tile replacement or reconfiguration without surface damage
  • No downtime—tiles are walk-ready immediately after installation

This system is ideal for projects requiring high efficiency, reduced labor costs, and minimal environmental impact.

Surface Preparation for Ceramista Tile Installation

Proper surface preparation is essential to ensure a smooth installation and long-lasting performance of Ceramista’s interlocking tile system. Follow these steps for optimal results:

1. Clean the Subfloor Thoroughly

  • Remove dust, dirt, grease, and any loose particles.
  • Ensure the surface is dry and free of moisture before installation begins.
  • For older surfaces, remove any adhesive residues or paint.

2. Ensure the Surface Is Flat and Level

  • Use a leveling tool to check that the subfloor is even.
  • Fill in low spots or sand down high areas to maintain uniformity.
  • A flat surface ensures a secure interlock between tiles and prevents shifting.

3. Repair Cracks or Holes

  • For concrete subfloors: patch cracks or holes using a suitable filler or leveling compound.
  • For wooden subfloors: secure loose boards and ensure no nails or screws are sticking out.

4. Optional Underlayment

  • While Ceramista tiles do not require glue, an underlayment may be used in specific environments (e.g., soundproofing or added moisture protection).
  • Ensure any underlayment used is clean, flat, and compatible with interlocking systems.

5. Check for Expansion Gaps

  • Leave a small expansion gap (typically 5–10 mm) around walls or fixed objects to allow for natural expansion and contraction

Ceramista Installer Guide: Using Silicone-Based Sealant

Why Use Sealant?

Ceramista tiles feature the INSTANTILE interlocking system, which eliminates the need for grout. However, in moisture-prone environments like bathrooms, kitchens, and entryways, we recommend using a flexible silicone or hybrid polymer sealant to:

  • Prevent water from seeping beneath the tiles
  • Protect perimeter expansion gaps
  • Maintain a clean, watertight finish without affecting tile movement

Recommended Sealant Types

Use a neutral-cure 100% silicone or hybrid polymer (MS polymer) sealant that is:

  • Waterproof and flexible
  • Mold- and mildew-resistant
  • Safe for ceramic surfaces and nearby materials

Popular options include:

  • GE Advanced Silicone 2 Kitchen & Bath
  • SikaSeal Kitchen & Bath
  • Bostik MSP 107
  • SikaFlex 11 FC+

Where to Apply Sealant

Apply sealant in the following key areas:

  • Around the perimeter of the room where tiles meet walls or baseboards. This seals the expansion gap and prevents water infiltration.
  • Where tile transitions to other surfaces like wood, vinyl, or metal. This ensures stability and protects against edge wear or moisture seepage.
  • Near wet-area boundaries, including bathtubs, showers, sinks, and toilets. This adds extra moisture resistance and a polished finish.
  • Under appliances or plumbing fixtures in kitchens or laundry rooms for added protection in heavy-use or spill-prone zones.

How to Apply Sealant

1. Prepare the surface:

Make sure all areas to be sealed are clean, dry, and free of dust or debris.

2. Complete tile installation:

Install all Ceramista tiles first using the INSTANTILE interlocking system. Leave a 5–10 mm expansion gap along the edges and near fixed points.

3. Apply sealant:

Cut the nozzle of your sealant tube at a 45° angle to match the gap size. Apply a steady, even bead into the expansion gap or transition edge. Smooth the sealant with a finishing tool or damp finger to ensure full contact and a clean finish.

4. Let it cure:

Follow the sealant manufacturer’s curing instructions. Most products require 24–48 hours to fully set. Avoid exposing the sealed areas to moisture during this period.

Important Tips

  • Do not use grout or cement-based sealers with INSTANTILE tiles.
  • Never apply sealant between the tile joints—the interlocking system must stay free and movable.
  • Avoid using acidic or acetoxy-cure silicones that can damage ceramic finishes.
